FEU-0511 sono convertitori di media ottici Fast Ethernet adattivi a 10/100 Mbps, con switch autoadattativo a 4 porte 10M/100Mbps integrato, che converte il segnale elettrico a doppino intrecciato 10Base-T o 100Base-TX indipendente a 4 porte con segnale ottico 100Base-FX. Estende la portata di trasmissione della rete da 100 m, il limite della linea in rame, a 120 km (single mode full duplex). Supporta due diversi tipi di supporti di connessione di rete, 10/100Base-TX e 100Base-FX. Grazie alla tecnica di commutazione e alla tecnica di storage & forwarding, realizza la trasmissione dei dati tra due supporti di connessione di rete. Supporta la trasmissione ottica in modalità multi-fibra a doppia fibra, single mode a doppia fibra e single mode a fibra singola.
